In Global First, Teva Signs Deal to Market Medical Marijuana Inhaler

Tel Aviv-based Syqe Medical says its device revolutionizes precise delivery of the drug, already in use in Haifa hospital.

In a world first, Israel’s Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. and Tel Aviv-based Syqe Medical said they signed a distribution and cooperation agreement to market medical cannabis in an inhaler.

Under the agreement, Teva will be the exclusive marketer and distributor in Israel of an inhaler developed by Syqe Medical for the delivery of medical cannabis. The accord marks the first time that a major global pharma company has agreed to market a medical cannabis product, according to Syqe.

With increased US sales, marijuana business to go global

As people are celebrating the legal sale of marijuana in the US, the burgeoning cannabis industry has gone from a curiosity to a bonafide booming market.

A new report by a leading marijuana industry investment and research firm found that legal cannabis sales jumped 17%, to $5.4 billion, in 2015 and they will grow by a whopping 25% this year to reach $6.7 billion in total US sales.

According to an INC.com report, there are also sizable and completely legal industries outside of the US, like Israel's 10-year-old medical industry. As governments from Germany to Australia to the UK are on the verge of legalising some form of marijuana, the global opportunity is coming into focus.

Export of medical marijuana garners support from Israeli health minister

Yaakov Litzman voiced his support for cannabis exports, if the profits go directly to the Ministry of Health

Israel's Health Minister Yaakov Litzman of the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism alliance on Sunday voiced his support for the Jewish State exporting medical marijuana- if the profits go directly to the Ministry of Health, Israel's Channel 2 news reports.

Speaking the Hamodia Economic Conference, organized by the ultra-Orthodox newspaper Hamodia, Litzman said that "I support the export of medical cannabis on the condition that the profits from the marijuana will go to the Health Ministry."

"This will most likely be approved," he added.

Israeli Cannabinoid Drug Maker Launches IPO, Eyes Nasdaq

Tel Aviv, Israel-based Therapix BioSciences has filed for a modest $12 million initial public offering as it looks to build up its portfolio of cannabinoid-based meds.

The 12-year-old biotech is already listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and also trades on the over-the-counter (OTC) market in the U.S., but is now looking to step up and be listed on the Nasdaq, where its ticker will be $TRPX, according to Renaissance Capital.
