Legal Marijuana Opponents Lobbying City Councils Across US

A group dedicated to keeping marijuana illegal has launched an effort to convince city councils across the country to actively oppose measures to end cannabis prohibition that are expected to appear on at least five state ballots this November.

“The City Council believes the effort to legalize marijuana is contrary to the interests of the public health, safety and welfare of its citizens, and desires to preserve the rights of citizens to live and work in a community where drug abuse is not accepted and citizens are not subjected to the adverse effects of drug abuse,” reads a draft resolution being circulated by SAM Action, the political arm of leading anti-legalization group Smart Approaches to Marijuana.

The resolution cites a litany of statistics and anecdotes intended to convince local officials that ending marijuana prohibition would be a public health and safety disaster, for example:
