N.H. selects three companies to operate medical marijuana treatment centers

State officials have selected three companies to move forward toward opening nonprofit medical marijuana treatment centers in New Hampshire, but it remains unclear exactly where or when the centers will open.

During the application period, which closed in January, 14 companies applied for four possible spots in New Hampshire’s medical marijuana market. The state is allowed by law to license up to four alternative treatment centers, and the health department plans to divide those centers up between four distinct “geographic areas.” One of the companies will be allowed to operate in two regions.

New Hampshire’s four medical marijuana treatment center regions are divided mostly along county lines: Belknap, Strafford and Rockingham make up Area 1; Merrimack and Hillsborough are Area 2; Sullivan and Cheshire are Area 3, along with Hanover and Lebanon in Grafton County; and Coos, Carroll and the rest of Grafton are Area 4.
