Teen busted mailing marijuana from California to Missouri

OVERLAND, MO (KTVI) – Every day, more than 9 million packages are shipped through FedEx. That’s a lot for workers to sift through, as they keep an eye out for prohibited items. But sometimes, one package stands out. Like a small freezer that arrived at the Overland FedEx terminal from California.

“They could tell it smelled like marijuana almost immediately,” says Overland Police Chief Mike Laws. FedEx employees called police immediately.

Officers discovered about 4,400 grams, or about 10 pounds, of high-grade marijuana, stuffed into 12 plastic bags, stacked inside the freezer.

Police say 19 year-old Zachary Haferkamp sent this package to himself from Redding, California. The Hillsboro resident was taken into custody at the FedEx in Fenton.

LANSING – Mayor Virg Bernero's planned speech Saturday at Hash Bash in Ann Arbor is expected to get plenty of attention, but it's unclear if words will lead to any action that makes Lansing's policy on the drug easier to understand and enforce.

The city already allows limited use of marijuana beyond medicinal purposes. Bernero is expected to help drive the effort for a possible 2016 ballot initiative that would make recreational use of the drug legal in Michigan.

After 3 years of closures, CU-Boulder to keep campus open on 4/20

The University of Colorado will keep the Boulder campus open to the public on 4/20 this year for the first time since officials in 2012 ramped up efforts to snuff the once-massive marijuana smokeout.

In a letter posted to CU's website, Chancellor Phil DiStefano said he felt that a lack of activity on 4/20 in the past three years prompted the decision to keep the campus open this April 20, which falls on a Monday.

"I told you last year that I hoped campus closures would not be necessary in the near-future and that we could go about our daily business on April 20 as we would any other day," DiStefano wrote. "That time has come."

There’s Now a Toronto Yoga Class that Starts with Smoking Weed

There’s a yoga class in Toronto that comes with an added perk: smoking weed.

No, it’s not a late April Fool’s Day joke.

At Ganja Yoga – located in High Times café in Kensington Market – each class begins with a few tokes of marijuana via a vaporizer, which is passed around a circle.

The desired result is heightened relaxation, spiritual growth, and focus.

Often, a musician will play a guitar, adding to the chilled out vibe.

Health-conscious stoners will appreciate the use of the vaporizer as opposed to a pipe or rolled joints, which heats the hemp to create THC rather than burning it. It’s basically the “healthy” way to get high.

Legalize Pot Lawmakers: 10 US Politicians Credited With Leading Fight to Make Marijuana Legal

Nationwide polls show that a slim majority of Americans want to legalize pot for any purpose. Seventy-five percent believe that marijuana legalization is inevitable, according to a Pew Research Center survey in 2014. However, few politicians on the national scene are actively leading the fight to make marijuana legal in their home states or at the federal level.

Most political support is for limited medical use. Others have done their part for the cannabis cause by supporting rules to require the federal government not prosecute individuals using marijuana per their state's rules. Here are 10 politicians who have at least partially supported legal marijuana or states' rights around pot:

Starting Line: Associatuion Startups Take Their Marks

The association startup space is budding just as much as the for-profit space is in Silicon Valley. Check out three examples of new groups that are starting to make an impact on fresh industries.

Association executives who were around in an organization’s early days might look back on those times fondly—long hours and late nights, learning by trial and error, and panicking when growth exceeded expectations. For associations still in their formative years, however, making it through each week, still standing, is cause for celebration.
