The Global Marijuana March Continues in Various Cities Around the World

Worldwide the "Global Marijuana March" traditionally takes place on the first Saturday in May, but many cities have events going on all month long. Here's a rundown.

May 9th

Germany

On Saturday, 05/09/2015, on the hill is the Germany-wide "Hanftag" held as part of the Global Marijuana March.

Hanfttag in Central Park
Because the march this year so close to the May 1 holiday, the organizers of hemp day in some of the 27 participating German cities, including Hamburg, opted for a different date. But not only the date has changed this year, but also the venue: This year does not find the international Hanftag in Schanzenpark but the Beach Club Central Park instead.

Nebraska Debate begins on legalization of medical marijuana

A Bellevue senator who is passionate about the state legalizing marijuana -- for medical purposes only -- finally got his day to try to convince 48 other lawmakers to join his crusade.

Sen. Tommy Garrett, who made the bill (LB643) his priority, opened debate Thursday this way: This is for the moms.

He told senators they had an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of Nebraskans who could benefit from medical marijuana.

The National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine in March 1999 said medical research has discovered beneficial uses for cannabis in treating or alleviating the pain, nausea, and other symptoms associated with debilitating medical conditions.

Bid to legalize marijuana in Arizona has some advocates seeing red

Family propelled JP Holyoak into the weed business: his daughter, Reese, has a rare illness, and Holyoak believes in the power of medical marijuana.

He believes in it so much that his company, Arizona Natural Selections, operates two medical marijuana dispensaries that have served about 9,000 patients since opening last year. Holyoak, a financial adviser, has a big cannabis nursery in a warehouse on an industrial estate near Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. And he believes that recreational marijuana should be legalised – not through any enthusiasm for stoner culture, but because it is sound conservative policy.

The role of marijuana in your coffee addiction

Does coffee enhance marijuana? A study published recently in the Journal of Neuroscience (Vol 34 (19):6480-6484, 2014) by neuroscientists from the Integrative Neurobiology Section of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, a branch of the National Institutes of Health, has finally provided a definitive answer: Yes, No, and it depends. I realize that sounds confusing, but their discovery does provide some fascinating insights into the workings of the brain, and why humans find coffee and marijuana so enjoyable. Their euphoric effects might be related to each other.

Here's Where The GOP's 2016 Presidential Contenders Stand On Marijuana Legalization

While the federal government maintains a blanket ban on marijuana, recreational marijuana is already legal in four states and the District of Columbia. In addition, 23 states, as well as D.C., have legalized marijuana for medical purposes.

And with at least 10 more states expected to consider legalization in some form by 2016, the next president of the United States will almost certainly have to reckon with the disparity between state and federal law on marijuana.
