The cannabis sold on Danish streets is stronger than ever. The concentration of its psychoactive substance, THC, has tripled in just 20 years.

According to an analysis prepared by the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Aarhus University and published by Sundhedsstyrelsen, the health authority, cannabis is stronger than it has ever been before.

“Marijuana as a product has changed significantly,” said Christian Lindholst, the head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at Aarhus University. “It is a trend we are seeing across Europe.”

The researchers analysed cannabis seized by police in Denmark’s three largest cities and found that the amount of THC in the samples measured 28 percent. In 1992, THC showed up at just 8 percent.

We're still just beginning to understand why some people become dependent on marijuana but others don't. Your genes could have a lot to do with it, a new study suggests.

For the first part of the study, published online today in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, researchers looked at genetic data from 1,558 Australians who reported both marijuana use and childhood sexual abuse. 

RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A fast-acting school nurse is being praised for rescuing a Long Island student who collapsed after smoking synthetic marijuana.

The 10th grade student collapsed in the girls’ locker room of Sachem High School East on Monday after smoking the drug, also known as “K2” or “Spice,” WCBS 880’s Mike Xirinachs reported.

She recovered after a school nurse administered Narcan, a medication known to reverse the effects of overdose.

A new report spotlights the U.S. states that are the most and least likely to legalize cannabis by 2017. The 270-page report by the Anderson Economic Group was published to estimate future market demand for legal marijuana.

Anderson CEO Patrick L. Anderson stated that “American opinions about marijuana are changing and it’s time that voters and investors have a sober and realistic look at the potential market for these products in each state.”

The report cites Arizona, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, Rhode Island and Vermont as the most likely candidates to legalize marijuana in the next couple of years. On the flip side, it highlights Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, North Dakota, Texas and West Virginia as the least likely to legalize pot.

When it comes to marijuana legalization, the United States is stuck between two immovable forces. Canada has recently elected a prime minister who favors the immediate legalization of marijuana. Additionally, Mexico’s Supreme Court has recently ruled that Mexican citizens can grow, possess and smoke marijuana for personal and recreational use.
