Patients: Medical marijuana not foothold for recreation

AUSTIN -- Medical marijuana advocates are stepping up the pressure on lawmakers this week.

The 84th Texas Legislature has seen an unprecedented number of marijuana-related bills, leading advocates for medical marijuana to draw distinctions between bills that would support medicinal use versus those that would affect recreational use. For that purpose, dozens of patients and medical marijuana advocates gathered at the Texas Capitol on Wednesday to highlight their cause.

California: Nestdrop Medical Marijuana Delivery Service Launches GoFundMe Campaign

To help pay for its upcoming legal battle with the City of Los Angeles, medical marijuana delivery service Nestdrop has launched a GoFundMe campaign to seek donations from medicinal cannabis patients, fellow tech companies, dispensaries and supporters across the country.

After sending a letter to the City Attorney’s office offering to work with them on sensible medical marijuana enforcement -- which went unanswered -- Nestdrop has moved forward with appealing the injunction.

Philly420: From Deleware to Detroit, Plans Differ for Medical Marijuana

Advocates for medical marijuana are quick to point out that 23 states have passed some sort of therapeutic cannabis law. All of them are different. They range from the broadly worded (California) to severely restrictive (New Jersey). The truth is that only a handful of these states actually offer programs that serve a majority of patients.

Robust programs are running in Maine, Oregon, Washington, Colorado and California. These states offer the widest array of access from home cultivation, collective gardens and professional dispensaries. The rest of the country struggles to compete for a similar level of compassion.

Medical Marijuana Update: MMJ phase II begins as C.NSP, C.SUN enter edibles space

The stock is a daytrade superstar, but also consistently moving up in price as speculators who see the potential for a big payday when the American listing hits (reportedly within four weeks) load up, and long holders who feel the edibles market is a big undeveloped MMJ play join in.

Nutritional High, right now anyway, is the perfect storm.

Will it deliver big revenues in two years? Don’t know. And, frankly, right now I don’t care. What I care about a lot is, is the thing likely to be higher tomorrow than it is today? And will it ramp up for the next month while it’s still a private Canadian investor club?

Tafts would own marijuana farm

Two scions of the city's storied Taft family have invested in the Butler County property that would serve as one of the 10 marijuana-producing farms should voters legalize marijuana in November.

Brothers Woody Taft, a private equity investor, and Dudley Taft Jr., a noted local musician, expressed support Wednesday for the ResponsibleOhio ballot initiative for a constitutional amendment. The language would allow adults over 21 to use marijuana and children, with parental consent, to get medical cannabis to treat illness.

North Carolina House committee kills medical marijuana bill

Raleigh, N.C. — Joseph Malinowski told the House Judiciary I Committee on Wednesday that he doesn't want to be a lawbreaker, but neither does he want to suffer with the aftermath of cancer or the symptoms of multiple sclerosis when medical marijuana can ease the pain.

"I spent 21 days in Harnett County jail, first time in my life I've ever been in any kind of trouble," Malinowski said. "But this helps me. I think it could help a lot more people."

Despite pleas from a number of people who testified that medical cannabis has helped treat either themselves or loved ones, the committee rejected legislation that would have legalized marijuana use for certain patients.

Laws ambiguous about legality of medical pot

Vague legal jargon and apparently contradictory laws are fueling confusion over the legality of medical marijuana in Florida.(Photo: Courtesy: St. Johns County Sheriff's Office)

ST. JOHNS, Fla. -- Vague legal jargon and apparently contradictory laws are fueling confusion over the legality of medical marijuana in Florida.

Two separate Florida laws are being talked about in the case with Scott and Marcia Yandell, the St. Johns couple arrested for allegedly running a marijuana operation out of their home, and neither law clarifies whether it's legal.

Denver Cracks Down on Marijuana 'Caregiver' Warehouse Grows

The Denver Fire Department issued 58 permits for warehouses to grow marijuana in non-licensed facilities last year – marijuana not to be sold in dispensaries. This marijuana was to be grown primarily by caregivers for consumption by medical users, or for the grower’s personal use.

With the permits, the department was acknowledging state law, approved by voters through a constitutional amendment in 2000, which gave caregivers the right grow six plants for five patients and six for themselves, or 36 plants.

But when the Denver City Council dropped the hammer on the permitted warehouses on March 23, it was because the fire department presented evidence that the process had gotten far out of hand.
