Marijuana and forest bathing: Wildest new trends in the wellness world

(CNN)Walking in the woods, cannabis day spas and rolling around in sand.

These are just a few of the hottest trends in wellness according to SpaFinder Wellness 365, which claims to be the world's largest spa media and marketing company.

But which trends will turn out to be fads and which will stick?

Strange as they sound, it's worth remembering that some pretty odd wellness practices have come and gone through the ages.

Cleopatra indulged in milk baths and mud treatments -- variations of which can still be enjoyed today.

For some reason, though, bloodletting and leeches didn't manage to survive the test of time.

Father of Epileptic Girl Calling for Change to Canada's Medical Marijuana Laws

An Ontario father is calling for change to Canada’s medical marijuana laws.

Alex Repetski says he is pushing ahead with a medical treatment for his daughter that is illegal. Repetski has a legal exemption to give his three-year-old daughter marijuana for her epilepsy. But in order to give it to her, he must convert the weed to oil. Government regulations say the girl has to smoke the drug and it cannot be converted to something she can ingest, such as oil.

Repetski could face charges of possession and trafficking. He’s calling for re-examination of the regulations, which he calls ridiculous.

St Croix: He Makes the Case for Medical Marijuana

An Open letter to the Governor, the Legislature, the Judiciary and the People of the Virgin Islands: The recent declaration by the Governor of Puerto Rico legalizing medical marijuana has brought much conversation on the airwaves here in the Virgin Islands. I would like the Governor and the Senators along with the Judiciary to understand what it is exactly that they will be writing, executing and judging the People of the Virgin Islands when they address the subject of Medical Marijuana. I'd like the people to think about the patients that need and use marijuana when they eventually go and vote for this law.

Be sure to consult your veterinarian first

Now that 23 states have given medical marijuana the green light (with even recreational use now allowed in another four states and Washington D.C.), growing weed has become a growing business. The newest frontier: getting Fido and Fluffy on board with the cannabis revolution.

Relax. We’re not talking about rolling doobies with your dog, or seeing “pretty colors” with your cat. Nope, these are cannabis-containing edible treats and capsules that are meant for sick or aging pets.

Vets with PTSD call for medical marijuana expansion

Years after he was exposed to Agent Orange in the steamy jungles of Vietnam, Bob Evans was prescribed morphine to kill his excruciating pain. He lived mostly in a stupor until early last year, when he began weaning himself off the addictive drug.

A few months later, Evans, 66, surprised his family and friends by dancing with his daughter, Amanda, at her wedding.

"I feel so much better," Evans said in an interview last month in the Mount Laurel home he shares with his wife, Donna.

The dramatic change, he said, came about after he replaced the morphine with two ounces of pungent medical marijuana buds he bought each month from a dispensary in Woodbridge.

Vancouver marijuana shop opens medical pot dispensary in Portland

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

New Vansterdam, one of the first legal marijuana stores to open in Vancouver, is getting ready for sales in Oregon once the drug is legal here.

The company just opened a new store in the Portland area that sells medical marijuana. Employees say it's the first step in a plan to expand to other states.

"We're creating a model, basically," employee Brent Royce said. "So we want to have both states up and running before we move forward with anything else."

New Vansterdam's goal is to become a chain of stores as marijuana becomes legal in other states.

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission is still going through the process of establishing rules and regulations for the sale of recreational marijuana in Oregon.

Texas: Has the Legislature's attitude on marijuana shifted?

When a Texas House committee voted Wednesday night to approve a bill that would legalize buying and selling marijuana in the state, pot advocates were downright giddy on social media, even as some acknowledged the measure had little chance of becoming law.

But the vote underscored possibly shifting attitudes in the Legislature, not long ago staunchly against any marijuana legalization measure.

Supporters of loosening marijuana laws have said there seems to be growing interest among some lawmakers to lessen criminal penalties for the possession of small amounts of pot and to expand the use of the now-illegal plant for medical purposes.
