'Get Baked Sale' in San Francisco to showcase edible marijuana – strictly for medicinal purposes ...

SAN FRANCISCO – If a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, imagine what a pancake breakfast might do for medical marijuana.

Marijuana is only legal for medical purposes in California, but that isn’t stopping purveyors of pot-infused cupcakes, nuts and other edible forms of the drug from putting on an outdoor food festival to showcase their wares.

The “Get Baked Sale” happening Saturday at a food truck hub in San Francisco comes as marijuana advocates are working to legalize recreational use of the drug through a statewide voter initiative in November 2016.

National Post View: Common-sense rules on medical marijuana

On Thursday, the Supreme Court of Canada struck down an appeal by the federal government to maintain the nonsensical status quo with regards to medical marijuana. The rules had stipulated that medical marijuana could only be possessed and consumed in its dried form, which meant chronically ill users were essentially restricted to smoking it. This made no sense whatsoever; a terminal lung cancer patient with a license to use medical marijuana, for example, should not be limited to lighting up. Yet under Sections 4 and 5 of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act, the creation and consumption of medical marijuana in alternate forms — in tablets, ointments, in baked goods or extracts — was prohibited.

How a sticky note helps Holly woman fight marijuana rap

The Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team prides itself on investigating cases that win many a conviction. A mere sticky note almost closed this case — until the Michigan Supreme Court saw it.

All that stood between a mother of two young children and a felony drug record after an Oakland County narcotics team raided their home was a sticky note.

More specifically — how would the courts view this Holly Village woman who'd jotted a few words and a date on a small adhesive-backed note? The words were to remind her husband of when it would be time to harvest the medical marijuana that he used for a health condition.

BIG PHARMA’S BIG PROBLEM

With sound research backing the use of CBD oil and patient testimonials piling in daily, why is this non-psychoactive supplement still in the legal grey area? Well, as the old and true saying goes, you have to follow the money to find the truth.

The pharmaceutical industry contributed just under 240 million dollars in lobbying efforts in 2014. That’s a fair amount of money switching hands and a fair amount of politicians now comfortably placed in Big Pharma’s pocket. But it’s not just politicians who pray to the all-mighty dollar. Cleverly named organizations do as well.

International Goldfields signal move into medicinal cannabis market

Perth-based metal explorer company International Goldfields will head to market within weeks to raise money for its foray into medicinal cannabis in South America.

The company is acquiring an 85 per cent stake in Uruguayan pharmaceutical company Wintergarden, giving it access to laboratories and cannabis plantations there.

It might be unchartered territory for a company more familiar with golden nuggets, but director David Tasker said it was a necessary step with markets unwilling to fund exploration.

"It's diversifying out of something that the capital markets aren't supporting," he said.

Vancouver sticks to ban on marijuana goods

Vancouver's second night of public hearings Thursday on its proposal to regulate illegal marijuana dispensaries was overshadowed by a Supreme Court of Canada ruling released earlier in the day that could directly affect the city's plan to ban all marijuana-infused products from pot shops.

In upholding a lower B.C. court ruling, seven Supreme Court judges were unanimous in concluding prohibition of non-dried forms of medical marijuana used for making goods such as brownies, cookies and tea violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

To date, the courts have required only dried marijuana be accessible to Canadians when authorized by a doctor, with more than 18,000 British Columbians legally allowed to access marijuana for medical purposes.

Teen's coma recovery 'amazing' - mother

The mother of a teenager who had been in an induced coma in Wellington Hospital since early April says it is "amazing" to see her son showing signs of consciousness.

Rose Renton visited Alex early on Friday morning and saw he was opening his eyes and responding to her voice.

Renton, 19, has been in hospital since April 8 in "status epilepticus", a kind of prolonged seizure. His mother pleaded for approval to use a medicinal cannabidiol, Elixinol, after two months of attempting other treatments had failed.

Doctors were expecting to receive a dose of Elixinol, from the United States on Friday after associate health minister Peter Dunne approved the treatment for Renton on Tuesday.
