Texas One Step Closer To Hiring Marijuana Growers

The State of Texas is one step closer to hiring licensed growers to begin cultivating marijuana crops for use in specific types of medicine.

Back in May the State legislature passed the bill allowing Texas to begin manufacturing CBD oil for epilepsy patients.

According to the Marijuana Project’s Heather Fazio, patients suffering from intractable epilepsy will be able to acquire a prescription giving them access s to the Cannabis oil to help ward off seizures.

The oil is to be extracted from Marijuana plants grown in Texas by firms hired and licensed by the state under the strict watch of DPS.

Medical marijuana user's case against firm moves forward

A Rhode Island judge on Tuesday denied a motion to dismiss a lawsuit that alleges a textile company discriminated against a graduate student when she was denied a two-month internship because she uses medical marijuana to treat migraine headaches.

Lawyers for Westerly-based Darlington Fabrics Corp. and its parent firm, Moore Company, told Providence Superior Court Judge Richard Licht that the company declined to hire Christine Callaghan based on her use of medical marijuana, not on her status as a medical marijuana cardholder, making a distinction between the two.

Attorney Tim Cavazza, who represents Darlington Fabrics, said an employer is not required under the state's medical marijuana act to accommodate or condone medical marijuana use.

NJ judge rules teen cannot have edible marijuana at school

TRENTON — A teenage girl in Maple Shade on Tuesday lost another legal battle in her quest to use medical marijuana in school to help control her seizure disorders as an administrative law judge ruled it would violate state laws designed to ban drug use in school zones.

The Maple Shade school district and the Larc School in Bellmawr "are mandated to comply with the Drug Free School Zone Act," according to Administrative Law Judge John S. Kennedy.

Roger Barbour, the father and attorney for his daughter, 16-year-old Genny Barbour vowed to appeal the case, which is believe to be the first court challenge of its kind in the country.

Medical marijuana users face higher insurance rates, even if they don't smoke it

Smokers can sometimes pay twice as much as non-smokers for life insurance because of the correlation with more health problems.

Many medical marijuana users in Canada pay a high price due to their prescriptions, because life insurance policies consider them smokers — no matter how they consume the drug.

Earlier this summer, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled patients with legal prescriptions have the right to take marijuana in any form: including smoking it, using edible products, or using cannabis-infused teas and oils.

First legal ‘Charlotte’s Web’ cannabis oil to go on sale in the UK

A London and Kent-based company have become the first UK distributors of ‘Charlotte’s Web’ cannabis oil since it was made legal.

Cannabis oil has become increasingly sought after as an alternative treatment for a range of conditions including severe epilepsy, but legislators have been unwilling to legalise it due to its association with marijuana.

Thanks to the work of advocates including CNN’s Dr Sanjay Gupta – who famously reversed his stance on medical marijuana to become a staunch supporter – and documentaries such as The Culture High, the wider public and legislators have come to see CBD oil’s medical value.

Rubio says he'd use federal law to crack down on marijuana

Marco Rubio says as president he would enforce federal law against states that have legalized marijuana.

“Absolutely,” he said Sunday on Meet the Press. “I believe the federal government needs to enforce federal law.” (That part of the interview was short so Rubio's ideas on how far to go are not clear; he's also championed states' rights on various issues.)

But the Florida Republican also said he is open to medical marijuana, provided it goes through the FDA approval process and has true medicinal benefits. “I’m not in favor of legalizing marijuana. I’m not. I never have been.”

Teen Marijuana Use and Depression: Looking at the Mental Health Link

A popular argument against legalization of marijuana is that evidence shows teen marijuana use may lead to mood disorders like depression in later life, but new research suggests that the link may not exist or at least may not be as pronounced as we might have feared.
