Study finds no detrimental effects of medical marijuana on cognitive function among older patients

New research from Israel found no significant effects of medical cannabis on cognitive function among middle-aged and older chronic pain patients. 

As the use of medical cannabis becomes more prevalent in a number of countries, the study’s authors set out to explore the possible detrimental effects of marijuana among patients aged 50 and over who use weed to treat chronic pain. 

The authors point out that multiple studies examining this relationship have been conducted for different age groups, however, the bulk of research has focused on the effects of cannabis on younger and developing brains.

Healthcare technology provider Healint surveyed 9,885 users of Migraine Buddy; the company’s global migraine tracking app. Of those who used cannabis, Healint says 82 percent  found it useful for reducing pain levels.

Cannabis company petition urges feds to extend insurance coverage to prescription pot

A Canadian health and technology company is circulating a petition pushing for a plan to offer certain patients national coverage for medical cannabis.

Cannalogue, said to be the recipient of Health Canada’s first direct-to-sales licence for medical cannabis, has launched a petition that urges Ottawa to ensure “disadvantaged groups such as seniors, those with disabilities and individuals below the poverty line” have access to drug coverage that extends to medical cannabis.

New Study Shows Rate of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Patients Treating Symptoms With Cannabis

New research out this month suggests that medical cannabis is extremely prevalent among patients looking to treat symptoms for a serious tissue disorder.

The study, which will be published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics, found that more than one-third of patients diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) have used marijuana to manage symptoms.
