Medical marijuana may be on November ballot in Ohio

Medical marijuana could be available to an estimated 215,000 Ohioans with qualifying medical conditions by 2018 if voters okay a constitutional amendment on the November ballot.

A year after Ohioans soundly defeated ResponsibleOhio’s for-profit plan to legalize marijuana for recreational and medical purposes, a national group with a successful track record in other states is pushing a medical marijuana-only issue for the Nov. 8 general election ballot.

Medical Marijuana Is Finally Coming to the Keystone State

Following 14 excruciating months of infighting and delays, Pennsylvania legislators are expected to legalize medical marijuana at their next session’s March 14, 2016 kickoff.

Specifically, Pennsylvania’s State House will vote on “Senate Bill 3” which the Senate overwhelmingly approved in a different form on Jan. 26, 2015.

In the interim, Senate Bill 3 was substantially modified increasing the covered medical conditions, limiting the allowable cannabis forms and imposing a “THC cap,” reducing the number of permitted growers, processors and dispensaries, and vesting legalized marijuana’s oversight and regulation with Pennsylvania’s Department of Health and its’ newly created “Advisory Board.”

Arizona Could Soon Have More Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

New medical marijuana dispensaries could be coming to Arizona with the health department set to approve new applications for only the second time.

Right now there are 99 dispensaries in Arizona, but there could be about two dozen more approved this summer. Tom Salow is with the Arizona Department of Health Services, which runs the state’s medical marijuana program. He said the department will give preference to applications for dispensaries in counties that don’t have one, as well as dispensaries that can serve the greatest number of patients in a 10-mile radius.

"This isn’t a merit-based application process," he said. "If you’re in compliance, you go on to the next step."

These 2 Marijuana Studies Raise Potentially Alarming New Findings

New research from Columbia University suggests a link may exist between marijuana and a variety of substance abuse disorders.

At the moment, the expansion of marijuana throughout the United States looks almost unstoppable.

Marijuana's rapid expansion
Since 1996, 23 states have approved the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes, opening up new pathways of treatment options for patients with chronic illnesses like glaucoma or terminal types of cancers. We've also witnessed residents in four states (along with Washington, D.C.) approve the legalization of recreational marijuana, which a decade ago would have seemed unfathomable.

Medical marijuana users concerned after Montana court decision

MISSOULA, Mont. - Medical marijuana patients in Montana are worried they won't be able to get prescriptions filled after last week's state supreme court decision.

Thursday justices upheld most of a restrictive law passed by the 2011 legislature. Part of their decision said medical marijuana providers can make money but can only sell to a maximum of three patients.

Katrina Farnum, the owner of Garden Mother Herb in Missoula, said she has no idea who will help most of her 124 patients with their chronic illnesses.

"The people who I've been dealing with for the last two days are in tears and don't know what they're supposed to do," she said.

She's been in business for over 12 years.

Marijuana Legalization: Cannabis Affects Ability To Process Emotion, New Study Says

Marijuana can alter the way one processes their emotions, according to a new study. Colorado State University researchers found that pot can affect users’ ability to recognize, process and “empathize with human emotions.”

The study, published Monday in the journal PLOS ONE, looked at the brain activities of 70 participants over the course of two years. Researchers classified participants based on whether they considered themselves chronic, moderate or nonusers of marijuana.
