Israel: Marijuana gives hope to parents of brain-damaged baby

A family in Israel is using medical marijuana to treat their son's chronic health conditions.

It's their last hope, after many other treatments failed to bring the toddler any relief.

For two and a half year old Lavie Parush, moments of joy are all too brief.

Diagnosed with severe epilepsy and cerebral palsy from birth, leaving him with brain damage, he suffered seizures, dozens a day. Now they're nearly all gone, with just a few drops a day of medical marijuana-- cannabis oil-mixed with into his food.

"We saw a difference immediately and after a few weeks, we didn't see any seizures at all," Lavie's father Asaf Parush says.

Canada: Demand for medical marijuana 'accelerating'

Note: Ronan Levy, director of Canadian Cannabis Clinics, said the company plans to open a clinic in Sudbury. An exact site for the clinic remains to be confirmed, but it will likely be downtown and operating this month. The Sudbury clinic will be 13th one in Ontario for the company, which is the country's largest operator of clinics specializing in medical cannabis.

While the concentration of medicinal marijuana dispensaries is mainly in downtown Toronto, access to the drug isn't just exclusively for those living in the 416 area code.

Canadian Cannabis Clinics has sparked up 11 locations throughout the GTA -- including one recently in Mississauga -- and southern Ontario since September 2014.

New Delhi: Marijuana, as it turns out, is not only great to get a high, but has also been found to have great medical properties.

Studies have found that Marijuana has the power to help children suffering from severe epilepsy.

However, according to experts, it is still a bit premature to confirm the effectiveness and/or the safety factor of the medicine that is made from cannabis.

An eastern Canadian chain of medical marijuana clinics plans to tap into a growing Alberta market later this month by opening its first Edmonton location.

Dr. Danial Schecter, who started Toronto’s Cannabinoid Medical Clinic in 2014 and now has five similar facilities, says doctors in the new office will offer examinations, evaluations, cannabis prescriptions and product advice.

Patients must be referred by their doctors, who might not feel they have enough expertise to handle this area themselves, Schecter said.

Canada: Helping Patients Access their Medication - Aphria Partners with CFAMM on Insurance Support Program

Canadian licensed producer Aphria is partnering with non-profit organization Canadians for Fair Access to Medical Marijuana (CFAMM) to provide insurance claim support and educational services to Aphria patients. The partnership agreement is effective immediately.

In Canada, medical cannabis is only covered by insurance plans for certain groups including military veterans and some individuals involved in workplace accidents. CFAMM will guide Aphria patients, who have existing private insurance, in navigating the process of advocating for insurance coverage for their medication and will provide extended one-on-one support for select Aphria patients.

NFL Players Call for Cannabis Policy Reform

The NFL has a strict policy on the use of marijuana, but one NFL player is making the argument that it’s not only needed, but a better solution for the consistent ailments that plague professional football players.

“Your job automatically gives you the symptom of chronic pain,” said Ravens offensive tackle Eugene Monroe, a member of the NFL since 2009. “You’re hitting each other as hard as possible every single day in practice. Your body is in pain a lot of time.”

Iowa: Facts about medical cannabis

I am a veteran who is very concerned about the 22 veterans that are taking their own lives in this country every day and I am very sad this fact is being brushed aside by Iowa legislators.

Cannabis is very helpful in treating PTSD and pain like (TBI) traumatic brain injury.

The Nation Magazine article, “The Real Reason Pot Is Still Illegal” explains how and why “Big Pharma” and others put so much money behind groups like “Drug Free America” to stop and condemn cannabis. I have heard legislators spout the same misinformation, almost verbatim.

States with medical cannabis programs have seen no increase in teen use. (See the March issue of International Journal on Drug Policy)

High demand expected during first year of legal medical cannabis in Australia

A study by the University of Sydney has estimated that Australians will consume up to 8,000kg of medical cannabis during the first year of it's legalisation, potentially creating a $100 million industry during the first year alone.

The white paper, Medicinal Cannabis in Australia: Science, Regulation and Industry, produced by the University of Sydney Business School and medical cannabis company MCG Pharmaceuticals, is the first of its kind to study the logistic, economic and medicinal benefits of an Australian medical cannabis industry. The data used in the study was pulled from sales trends in Israel, Canada and the Netherlands when they legalised medical cannabis.

Irish mum calls for a change to laws after son is 99% seizure-free following cannabis oil treatment

A severely epileptic boy is “99% seizure-free” after undergoing pioneering cannabisoil treatment in America.

She moved to Colorado with two-year-old son Tristan, who was born with an incurable form of epilepsy, from their home in Dunmanway, Co Cork , last December.

The toddler, who was suffering 20 seizures a day, has drastically improved and Yvonne is convinced her desperate decision to leave Ireland was the right one.

Most NZers support medical marijuana - poll

The research company, UMR, polled 1750 people between January and February.

Of those polled, 72 percent said they would support a medical marijuana regime, with 13 percent opposed and 15 percent not sure.

Support was spread evenly across all demographics, including age, gender, and even political party support, with only a slight dip to 65 percent among National voters.

UMR executive director Stephen Mills said it was unusual for a poll question to deliver such a decisive result.

"I would guess that people would just see it as an utter no-brainer, that if people were in considerable pain or worse and marijuana can provide some relief then they should be allowed to use it. I think it's just a straight, sympathetic human response to the situation."
