Fibromyalgia: Pain Management with Cannabis proved superior than Big Pharma Drugs

Being diagnosed with fibromyalgia means that you can say goodbye to any semblance of a normal life. It is a serious debilitating condition characterized by constant muscle pain and fatigue, symptoms which are usually accompanied by headaches, difficulty sleeping, and widespread joint pains. Because of the severity of the condition, people with fibromyalgia also tend to suffer from anxiety and depression. If you spend most of your days dealing with extreme pain and fatigue, you just won’t have the energy to do things you enjoy. The fatigue can be so debilitating that for many patients still feel tired even after sleeping 10 hours a night. That’s if they’re lucky: many patients suffer so much from fibromyalgia symptoms that falling and staying asleep becomes difficult.

Wisconsin Republicans reach deal on marijuana extract bill

Republican state senators have reached a deal on a proposal making it legal in Wisconsin to possess a marijuana extract used to treat seizures.

A similar bill failed to pass last session despite widespread bipartisan support when Republican senators derailed the proposal amid concerns it would open the door to legalizing marijuana.

Republican Sen. Leah Vukmir was one of those who opposed the measure, but her spokeswoman Jessica Ward said Thursday she has agreed on a new version and is working with Sen. Van Wanggaard on advancing it.

Wanggaard spokesman Scott Kelly said he is confident the measure will have enough support to pass. The bill is expected to be one of the first introduced this session.

Legal haze clouds cannabis for pets

After the results of the November election, more than half of U.S. states have now authorized medical marijuana. And eight of those states also allow recreational marijuana.

So if pot helps some humans feel better, then how about people’s best friends?

Northwest veterinarians are being asked about treating pets with cannabis and that puts these vets in a difficult spot legally.

Cornelia Wagner runs the Hawthorne Veterinary Clinic in Portland.

She said pet owners turn to hemp or medical marijuana for many of the same things humans take it for these days including cancer symptoms, pain, inflammation, seizures, nausea, anxiety, chronic skin allergies and loss of appetite.

Medicinal marijuana: Queensland parents fear for sick children after cannabis oil bust

Concerned parents have expressed fears for the lives of dozens of sick Queensland children following raids on a South Australian cannabis oil producer.

Police yesterday raided Jenny Hallam's property at Hillier and seized chemicals and other substances for forensic testing, but no charges have yet been laid.

The raids sparked outrage as Ms Hallam supplied cannabis oil products, at no cost, to hundreds of sick Australians.

Steve Peek from Brisbane said his eight-year-old daughter Suli relies on Ms Hallam's cannabis oil to control her seizures.

"We only have enough to last until next week," he told the ABC.

Is medical marijuana on the job a major risk for employers?

Medical cannabis has been named among the top biggest legal risks for businesses in 2017, according to a report from Canada’s largest law firm.

In its annual report on key trends and regulatory changes, Borden Ladner Gervais predicts medical marijuana will have a major impact on businesses — such as the possibility of employees being stoned on the job. But that doesn’t mean employers should freak out about it — because overreacting is also a risk, said Rob Weir, a partner in the law firm.

“Employers think they will have employees stoned out of their minds. I think that’s an overreaction,” said Weir, who urges employers to look at the evidence.

Not All Cannabis is Created Equal

The cannabis industry got a lot more complicated on Dec. 14, when the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced that it would now consider cannabidiol—known as CBD, a Schedule 1 controlled substance with no confirmed medicinal benefits. To put that in perspective, heroin is listed in the same category. Moreover, CBD is the non-psychoactive component of cannabis—it does not get you high like tetrahydrocannabinol, known as THC, which is one of the main elements in recreational marijuana smoking.
