In another move to expand internationally, Alberta-based Aurora Cannabis Inc. (NYSE: ACB; TSX: ACB; Frankfurt: 21P) today began selling Pedanios 5/1 branded cannabis oils to pharmacies in Germany.

The move follows completion of several regulatory hurdles from both the German and Canadian sides. Following that announcement, Aurora’s stock was up just over 3% this morning.

Aurora’s Chief Global Business Development Officer Neil Belot commented on the company’s strategy behind moving into the German market with oil extracts:

N.L. not weighing big changes to medical cannabis coverage for injured workers

WorkplaceNL is aware of action in other provinces that could allow injured workers more access to medical-use cannabis, but there is no significant movement in that direction at this point in Newfoundland and Labrador.

"It is an area where we've had some internal discussions, but we haven't yet seen, I guess, any substantive increase in requests of this nature in this area for medical-use marijuana and cannabis," WorkplaceNL CEO Dennis Hogan said in an interview.

"So we're continuing to watch that situation."

Last year, New Brunswick was the first province to introduce cannabis guidelines for workers' compensation claims. P.E.I. and Ontario followed. Nova Scotia is expected to release its guidelines in early April.

New Brunswick tackles issue of medical cannabis for injured workers

Annette Balkam isn't sure whether she would be alive today if she hadn't discovered medical cannabis.

The Moncton woman said she slipped and fell on the job as a security guard in 2011, severing two ligaments and developing a neurological disorder that's left her in "constant pain."

Six years ago, she decided to try medical cannabis. Balkam said she was taking too many pills, including addictive opioids, and nothing seemed to help.

Now, Balkam said, she has stopped taking opioids. She feels more alert and is able to function better.

But she said it took months to persuade WorkSafeNB back in 2014 to cover the costs of her medical cannabis.

"We're not drug addicts," Balkam said. "We're not looking to get high. We're looking to relieve our pain."

This is your "Little Brain" on cannabis

Increasingly, our “little brain” is being recognized as playing a bigger role than previously thought in cognition, learning, emotions, and addiction. Because human cerebellum has a high density of CB1 cannabinoid receptors, there is speculation that cannabis use most likely affects both cerebellar function and structure. In recent months, two different systematic reviews have done deep and detailed dives into how cannabis affects the cerebellum.

Amazon may sell marijuana sooner than expected

The marijuana industry is evolving at a rapid pace. Back in 1995, a mere 25% of all respondents in Gallup's annual survey were in favor of legalizing marijuana, and not a single U.S. state or country around the world had given the green light to cannabis.

Today, two-thirds of all respondents in Gallup's annual survey now favor the legalization of pot in the U.S., with 33 U.S. states having legalized the drug for medical purposes, and 10 allowing adult consumption. There are also two countries (Canada and Uruguay) worldwide to OK recreational weed, with more than two dozen medically legal countries.

Investing in CBD stocks offers opportunity but risks

Cannabidiol (CBD) has taken off lately, and the recent passage of the Farm Act in December has accelerated interest in the cannabinoid found in cannabis plants that was also the active ingredient in the first FDA approved drug derived from botanical cannabis, GW Pharmaceuticals's Epidiolex, which is indicated for the treatment of seizures in treatment-resistant forms of two types of epilepsy, Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Products containing CBD are becoming increasingly available in a variety of formats and through an increasing number of venues, with consumers able to access products derived from industrial hemp through mail order, convenience stores, health food stores, some restaurants and coffee shops and now even malls.

Here's why seniors are turning to marijuana

While cannabis is inextricably intertwined with youth culture, and parents wring their hands over fears of children getting hooked on the devil’s weed, the fastest-growing group of cannabis consumers is adults over 50.

Boomers are going back to their hippie roots as they drift into seniority on a cloud of smoke. Retirement, fewer responsibilities, more free time, no drug testing, and the onset of medical issues mean that seniors are a perfect target demographic for the drug.

Governments around the world changing stance on cannabis legalization

Before the twentieth century, cannabis was used as a sort of medicine to treat asthma, coughs, migraines, and insomnia. However, due to the psychoactive effects of tetrahydrocannabinol, or the THC-derivative, cannabis became illegal and was removed from the list of registered medicines.

Now, cannabis is rapidly emerging around the globe as countries begin to reverse the laws and legalize its medicinal use again. While most countries are exploring opportunities within the medical cannabis sector, the proliferation of recreational cannabis is rapidly spreading throughout the western hemisphere of the world.
