A state commission on medical marijuana will soon hold its first meeting in Atlanta.

The Commission on Medical Cannabis was created by a law passed this year permitting people with certain medical conditions to legally possess cannabis oil in-state with their doctors' approval. It meets June 16 at the state Capitol.

The commission includes Republican state Rep. Allen Peake of Macon.

Some still want laws permitting the federally prohibited plant's growth in Georgia. They say the recent legislation in Georgia doesn't protect people while transporting the oil from other states where it can be produced and sold.

TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie vowed Sunday to eliminate legalized marijuana in states like Colorado and Washington if he's elected president.

The governor, speaking on CBS' "Face the Nation," said his administration would use federal rules that outlaw marijuana to clamp down on states that legalized recreational pot use.

"Yes sir," Christie told host John Dickerson when asked whether he'd go after Colorado and Washington.

"If you were president would you return the federal prosecutions in the states of Colorado, Washington states?" Dickerson asked.

"Yes," Christie said.

"So, if somebody's enjoying that now in their state, if you're president, that's getting turned off?" Dickerson continued.

Late Thursday, the Louisiana House of Representatives passed a bill that would allow for the legalization of medical marijuana in that state, and the signs are that Republican Governor Bobby Jindal will sign it.

“Our view on medical marijuana was it had to be supervised and had to be a legitimate medical purpose and this bill meets that criteria,” the governor said while the bill and its amendments were being debated in late May.

PHOENIX — An independent poll released Wednesday shows a majority of Arizona residents support ending marijuana prohibition.

The Behavior Research Center’s latest Rocky Mountain Poll found 53% of Arizonans support making possession of a small amount of marijuana legal for personal use. Just 39% are opposed. Support outpaced opposition in all three of the geographical areas that were surveyed: 53-38 in Maricopa County; 47-43 in Pima County; and 58-38 in Rural Arizona. The survey of 701 Arizonans was conducted from April 29-May 15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8%.
