How a sticky note helps Holly woman fight marijuana rap

The Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team prides itself on investigating cases that win many a conviction. A mere sticky note almost closed this case — until the Michigan Supreme Court saw it.

All that stood between a mother of two young children and a felony drug record after an Oakland County narcotics team raided their home was a sticky note.

More specifically — how would the courts view this Holly Village woman who'd jotted a few words and a date on a small adhesive-backed note? The words were to remind her husband of when it would be time to harvest the medical marijuana that he used for a health condition.

Even a little marijuana is too much at BWI Airport

Marijuana restrictions have been relaxed in the District, but an incident Wednesday at one of the region’s airports showed that Washington-area marijuana enforcement, even involving small amounts, has not ended.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said a search of the luggage of an arriving passenger at Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport yielded a discovery and a seizure. The search came after a customs detector dog “alerted,” the agency said.

The item seized, the agency said, was a single cigarette that contained less than 1 gram of marijuana.

The cigarette was in a bag carried by a U.S. citizen, who was arriving from Jamaica, the agency said.

Dunne's assurances on cannabis mean little

Minister who claims one-off drug use does not set precedent deserves to be met with scepticism.

Understandably enough, the Renton family have been doing all they can to get the best possible treatment for their teenage son, Alex, who is in an induced coma in Wellington Hospital.

After more than 20 standard medications failed to cure his ongoing seizures, they set their sights on a cannabis-derived medication, Elixinol. Protests staged by the family and their supporters to try to get the Government to approve its use gained widespread media coverage. Finally, this week, they got their wish.

BIG PHARMA’S BIG PROBLEM

With sound research backing the use of CBD oil and patient testimonials piling in daily, why is this non-psychoactive supplement still in the legal grey area? Well, as the old and true saying goes, you have to follow the money to find the truth.

The pharmaceutical industry contributed just under 240 million dollars in lobbying efforts in 2014. That’s a fair amount of money switching hands and a fair amount of politicians now comfortably placed in Big Pharma’s pocket. But it’s not just politicians who pray to the all-mighty dollar. Cleverly named organizations do as well.

Dearborn prosecutor disagrees with Hamilton prosecutor's pro-marijuana legalization stance

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. – The Dearborn County prosecutor spoke out against legalizing marijuana the day after a task force led by the prosecutor of neighboring Hamilton County released a report touting the benefits of legalizing marijuana in Ohio.

Aaron Negangard, the prosecutor in Dearborn and Ohio counties, told WCPO that he believed the decriminalization trend was largely responsible for “the increased drug problems we’re having.”

“I think it’s an awful idea,” Negangard said. “I think it will lead to greater drug abuse. It will lead to greater crime, and we’re already seeing that.”

Sûreté du Québec raids marijuana grow-ops on South Shore

The Sûreté du Québec raided two large marijuana grow-ops on the South Shore Friday morning.

One was in the town of Pierreville, and the other one was in Saint-François-du-Lac. Both were used to grow the plants so that they could be re-transplanted outdoors.

Nearly 20,000 pot plants and cuttings, in different stages of growth, were seized.

The Pierreville grow-op had multiple rooms which housed plants, cuttings and mini-greenhouses.

The raid was part of Operation Cisailles (shears), that has been ongoing for several years.

Contrary to previous raids, where the police would search for outdoor pot plantations, the new approach is aimed at stopping the illegal activity before planting occurs, and arrests are possible.
