Solicitor questions decision to prosecute cannabis user

A SOLICITOR has questioned the decision to prosecute a cannabis user who takes the drug to relieve the pain of a chronic joint condition.

It came after police found the drug in the possession of 24-year-old Gareth Evans while carrying out a search of a property on Sunflower Road, Barnstaple.

North Devon Magistrates' Court heard how officers had searched the property on September 3 after speaking to its owner – who had been cautioned for possessing cannabis earlier that day.

Lyndsey Baker, for the prosecution, said on entering the flat officers discovered a number of people, including Evans, who were all searched. A small bag of cannabis containing 0.67g of cannabis, worth ÂŁ6.70, was found on Evans.

Germany: Researcher calls for controlled cannabis delivery

A doctor at the Hamburg University pleads for a pilot drug project in coffee shops and pharmacies. For what reason do researchers hope to protect a controlled delivery to consumers.

At the German Congress of addiction Hamburg addiction researcher Jens Reimer has been campaigning for a controlled delivery of cannabis to adults. The risks are too high with a dealer to get product contaminated with lead or other impurities, Reimer said. "In the supermarket there is wine and beer but also ingredients and alcohol content are specified," argued the president of the German Addiction Congress, which ends in Hamburg on Friday.
