B.C. government issues searing response to pot shop lawsuit claims

The B.C. government has issued a response to a suit filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia by the owners of a medical cannabis dispensary in Vancouver that was subject to a raid in which the province’s Community Safety Unit (CSU) alleged the store was selling “non-medical cannabis.”

Shop owners Doug and Michelle Sikora claim in the suit that the Feb. 18 raid was essentially “a warrant-less search and seizure of medicinal cannabis and medicinal cannabis products from a medical cannabis dispensary,” and, therefore, represented a violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, according to Coast Reporter.

We Must End Marijuana Prohibition For Economic Recovery In A Post Pandemic World

Very simply, marijuana legalization is not some wild experiment that has never been done before. And now, of course, we are beginning to see the same experience in some places in the United States.

In the midst of the pandemic, there is much uncertainty about almost everything, but one thing does seem certain: America is going to be much poorer. Or, to put in a global perspective, America and a few other countries will be much less rich and the rest of the world will be much, much poorer, and no wall or welfare program will protect us.

From pot to shrooms: What's next for decriminalization?

Are shrooms the new cannabis in Canada?

In the U.S., the Washington D.C. Board of Elections is allowing an initiative to decriminalize psychedelic plants, including “magic mushrooms,” to appear on November’s ballot, after supporters gathered more than 25,000 signatures, according to the Washington Post.

If approved, the U.S. capital would join Denver, Oakland, Calif., and Santa Cruz, Calif., which have decriminalized psychedelics.

But, not so fast, says Canada’s federal government.

The Cannabis Industry’s ‘Essential’ Upside From COVID-19

The designation of the cannabis business as essential caught some states and some state officials off guard.

It was a classic watershed moment when 20 of the 33 states across the U.S. that allowed some form of sale and consumption of marijuana had those businesses designated as essential businesses in March during the early days of the coronavirus outbreak.

COVID-19: Seth Rogen also answers premier's call for help

There’s a development in the comic book-like saga that is Horgan’s Heroes.

Comedian Seth Rogen tweeted Saturday a lighthearted message to B.C., urging people not to gather in large groups and instead stay home and “smoke weed.”

Rogen’s tweet follows another funny message to B.C.’s youth from Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds on Friday, asking them not to “kill his mom.”

On Saturday, Rogen wrote:

“People of British Columbia! Please do not go out to parties and BBQs and other large gatherings! The COVID is still out there! It’s more fun to hang out alone and smoke weed and watch movies and TV shows anyway! Do that instead! Thank you!”

Study Finds Consumers Have Positive Views Of Legal Cannabis

A study of consumer attitudes released recently found that residents of states with legal cannabis have a positive view of the regulated marketplace. Results of the research, “Consumer perceptions of ‘legal’ and ‘illegal’ cannabis in US states with legal cannabis sales,” were released online last month ahead of the publication of the study in the journal Addictive Behaviors early next year.

Study Shows Cannabis Legalization Doesn’t Impact Youth Cannabis Use

There has been much speculation about whether or not cannabis use in teens has gone up or down due to legalization and medical acceptance in states across the U.S. Some studies have looked for a positive impact on lowering teen use, while detractors have claimed cannabis is now more accessible.

Canadian pot producers take fight to illicit market with cheap cannabis

It took some time, but Canadian cannabis producers appear to have finally embraced selling cheaper pot.

The so-called value segment of the Canadian cannabis market - defined by one analyst as having a retail price below $6 per gram - has exploded in recent months: it accounted for slightly more than 40 per cent of all dried flower sales in July, up from 10 per cent of the market last September, according to industry data provider Headset.

The popularity of these “value" products has helped companies like Aurora Cannabis Inc. and Canopy Growth Corp. report better-than-expected quarterly sales figures, while also providing consumers with a competitively priced product that could lure people away from the illicit market.

'It's not cannabis': Alta. farmer hopes to nip hemp stealing in the bud

An Alberta farmer is asking people to stop stealing hemp from his field after multiple people have been spotted taking plants.

Lory Betchuk is growing hemp for the first time, usually he grows more traditional crops like wheat, barley and oats, to name a few.

"I'm a small farmer, and I just thought I'd just try something a little bit different," said Betchuk. "I always try to do the best I can with the land I've got."

But this crop has posed a challenge for the farmer, people keep stealing it from his field.

"My guess is that they don't know it's hemp, they're probably guessing it's cannabis," said Betchuk. "It's not cannabis."
