Can cannabis gelato change Italy's attitude to weed?

The flavor is named after Bob Marley. Probably not because the reggae legend loved gelato.

What's Italian for munchies?

A town on Italy's Riviera coast has begun selling a weed-infused gelato that campaigners hope could change the country's attitude to cannabis.

Perleco, a gelato parlor in Alassio, recently launched the gelato -- named Marley after reggae legend Bob.

But while it sounds like a weed fiend's dream, its makers say the frozen treat isn't going to get anyone high.

What Are The Best Marijuana Industry Investment Opportunities Right Now?

Earlier today I posed a question on my Facebook page – “What do you think are the best investment areas in the cannabis industry right now?” I made sure to state ahead of time that I wasn’t talking about any particular companies, because ‘invest in this company’ blah blah blah, it gets old. I was talking about areas or sectors of the marijuana industry that present good investment opportunities. To be very clear, I am in NO WAY an investor in anything, other than retro arcade games and consumable cannabis, and even then only on a personal level (up to 8 ounces legally in Oregon!). So take my opinion for what you will.

Hemp marketer pledges to buy organic Kentucky crop

John Roulac, founder and CEO of hemp superfoods brand Nutiva, plans to announce that he will buy all the organic hemp Kentucky can produce, according to a news release from the Kentucky Hemp Research Foundation and Atalo Holdings.

Roulac plans to make the announcement at GoOrganic!, a seminar on organic agronomics Feb. 29 at the Hemp Research Campus in Winchester.

“Demand for certified organic foods is growing. We look forward to sourcing organic hemp from Kentucky farmers,” Roulac said.

The transition to organic farming methods can take 2 to 5 years, and Roulac is encouraging farmers to prepare now, although the USDA has instructed its National Organic Program’s accredited certifying agents to not certify organically grown hemp.

City of Saskatoon takes hands off approach to medical marijuana dispensaries

Saskatoon's city council is standing by a committee decision not to allow medical marijuana dispensaries, despite receiving a cautionary letter from the owner of the Saskatchewan Compassion Club.

On Feb. 8, the Standing Policy Committee on Planning, Development and Community Services voted against issuing business licences to marijuana dispensaries.

Administration argued that medical marijuana falls under federal jurisdiction, and anyone involved with it must get a federal licence.

It also pointed to the city's own bylaw's which state that before a business licence can ge granted, the applicant must have the necessary federal and provincial approvals.

Tweed and Bedrocan Canada Respond to Allard Decision

SMITHS FALLS, ON, Feb. 24, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Today the Federal Court released its decision in the case of Allard et al v. Canada. This case began as a result of the government's decision to repeal the Marihuana Medical Access Regulations ("MMAR") and enact the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations ("MMPR"). This change overhauled the way that the government provides access to medical cannabis for patients across the country. The plaintiffs in the Allard case argued that the MMPR violates their Charter rights and the court, in a lengthy and detailed judgment, agreed with the plaintiffs and gave the government six months to amend the MMPR.

Weediquette Takes Viewers Inside the World of Marijuana

My parents have been gone for more than two decades, but I'm certain I'll hear a chorus of ghostly and grim I-told-you-sos from their direction as this week's television debuts get underway. Shows about drugs! Right on TV! We told you the world was going to Hell in a hippie handbasket!

Weediquette, debuting on the new Viceland network that next week will replace the H2 channel on cable and satellite systems around the country, is the first TV series dedicated to the science, culture and economics of marijuana.

Meet the Marijuana Industry's Secret Weapon

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? One only has to look at the rift between the marijuana industry (aka, the unstoppable force) and the federal government (the immovable object) to get a good feel.

The unstoppable force and the immovable object
Two decades ago the idea of legalizing marijuana in any way was considered highly taboo. Then, in 1996, California became the first state to pass a law legalizing the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. Some 20 years later we now have 23 states that have legal medical marijuana laws on their books, with four states (along with Washington, D.C.) allowing for the sale of recreational marijuana as well.

Marijuana sales may be tricky for Hawaii

With less than five months to go before medical marijuana dispensaries can open in Hawaii, business owners could be facing unique obstacles in a state of islands separated by federal waters.

Dispensaries can open as soon as July 15, but industry experts say they could be confronted with challenges unlike those in other states, such as navigating rules that ban inter-island transport and limit the number of growers — all of which could cause marijuana shortages. A lack of labs to test the crop presents another challenge for state lawmakers.
