Marijuana grow facility may be forced close because it reeks

A marijuana grow operation in Denver could go up in smoke because neighbors are sick of the smell.

The grower Starbuds wants to renew its cultivation license, but residents are urging city officials to deny the application — complaining that the operation is negatively affecting the neighborhood with its excessive odors, according to the Denver Post.

Starbuds is located in a mixed-use zoning area, but the hearing officer Suzanne A. Fasing says that the operation does not comply with the neighborhood’s restrictions. Fasing has suggested the city revoke its license.

But Starbuds argues there is no proof their product reeks.

The Tea Pot Voluntarily Recalls Medical Marijuana and Products Due to Pesticide Residues

A Denver marijuana cultivation business, The Tea Pot LLC, is voluntarily recalling medical marijuana and medical marijuana products due to the presence of unsafe pesticide residues.

Samples of marijuana infused products contained residual levels of Myclobutanil and Spiromesifin, pesticides that the Colorado Department of Agriculture has determined cannot be used legally on marijuana in Colorado.

All Tea Pot LLC marijuana and marijuana products (such as concentrates) are subject to the recall and were distributed throughout Colorado bearing the OPC # of 403-00081 on each label.

Details of Washington marijuana applicants released to public in data breach

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board is working to notify marijuana license applicants whose personal information was accidentally distributed by the agency in response to a public records request.

The data may include social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial information, tax information and attorney-client privileged information. The LCB had redacted the documents for the records request, but a folder containing the personal information was accidentally included.

The agency confirmed the breach Tuesday and said it was working to notify affected individuals.

A Job In The Legal UK Cannabis Industry Has Become Available

Occasionally you hear that “medical cannabis is legal in the UK” when at international cannabis conferences. This is almost an “in black and white” or “down on paper” kind of “medical cannabis” whereby technically there is because there is a pharmaceutical company licenced to produce and research it. They have gone on to make medicines from this research which are very limited in their application to illnesses that have been traditionally treated by cannabis. But for Governments it is an acceptable starting place.

I can’t even count how many times I have been told “I would love to work in the legal cannabis industry” usually followed by “when it happens”.

Well, today is your lucky day…if you fit these requirements.

Fairbanks is shaping up to be the center of Alaska's marijuana industry

On a warm, cloudless Memorial Day, Mike Emers surveyed his domain at Rosie Creek Farm. Emers has owned the family farm for 16 years, a spacious plot cut from the Interior Alaska wilderness. It was the last day the farm would exist in its current iteration. After that, its transformation to a cannabis growing facility would begin.

The next day, an 8-foot fence went up around the perimeter, satisfying part of the state's security requirements for the new legal marijuana industry.

Perhaps as important for Emers, the fence will keep moose out of the potentially lucrative cannabis crop.

Alaska could begin approving marijuana business applications Thursday

On Thursday, the state will meet to begin approving marijuana licenses for cultivation and testing facilities. There are 30 potential businesses up for review, including Arctic Herbery in Anchorage.

Real estate agent Bryant Thorp hopes to open the small boutique grow operation on Arctic Boulevard near 71st Avenue. For many, the dream of opening a marijuana business in Alaska has been years in the making, which is why Thorp made sure to get his application in early.

Will Cannabis Advertising Land You A Felony?

Lawmakers urge the Department of Justice to issue clarification surrounding marijuana advertising in legal states.

Now that marijuana is legal in some fashion or decriminalized in more than half of the United States, advertising has become even more of a hot button issue.

Legal cannabis businesses looking to advertise have a tricky tightrope to balance as Schedule I restrictions imposed by the federal government mean business owners can’t write off marketing expenses.

Bigger, Better: Canabis in California

For decades, cannabis cultivators, dispensaries and patients have faced raids and incarceration for growing, distributing and consuming cannabis.

The constant fear of police, property loss and expensive legal defense costs has created generations of cultivators who invested the bare minimum into materials and infrastructure. Cheap equipment, unlicensed contractors and lack of code-enforcement guidelines created ideal conditions for fire hazards and excessive waste.

What's It Really Like to Work in Seattle's Pot Industry?

Cannabusiness Owners and Employees Discuss the Economic Reality—and Limits—of Working in the So-Called "Green Rush".

"You see many people working hard, working long hours, and not driving sports cars. The people I see are motivated more by what they can do to help other people.”

One of the major benefits touted by proponents of cannabis legalization is job creation. Currently in Seattle, there are 46 licensed retailers, 19 producer/processors, 20 processors, and numerous ancillary businesses. But as my column last week about Uncle Ike's violating the minimum wage shows, there are concerns about the quality of these jobs.
