Reports that a chemical insecticide was found in legal, organically grown marijuana in Oregon have led to a class action lawsuit — not against growers, but against the insecticide maker.

Guardian mite spray, advertised as an "all natural" product, contains ivermectin — a conventional pesticide in the avermectin family, Benjamin Efran claims in a July 14 lawsuit in Multnomah County Court.

He sued All In Enterprises, and its officers Michael Delamater, both of Illinois, and Thomas McCathron, of Michigan.

According to the lawsuit, the company listed the ingredients as "cinnamon oil, lemon grass oil, citric acid, yeast extract, sunflower lecithin, and water." Guardian was primarily used to kill mites.

With the marijuana industry booming right now, we are seeing more states legalize it as the benefits of legal marijuana become more increasingly obvious to society as a whole. Legalizing helps keep marijuana out of the hands of underage people much like how it is done with alcohol and states are seeing significant tax revenue from legalizing the crop.

The marijuana business in the U.S. is growing like a weed.

Nationwide, legal sales of marijuana reached $5.7 billion in 2015, up from $4.6 billion the previous year, according to a report from ArcView Market Research. For 2016, the market is projected to grow to $7.1 billion. And by 2020, ArcView says, sales of legal marijuana in the U.S. could top $22 billion.

As it stands now, about two-thirds of America’s marijuana crop — the legal and illegal kinds — is grown outdoors, according to Mother Jones magazine.

When legal pot shops first opened up in America, there wasn’t a ton of thought given to retail design and aesthetics. Understandably so: Compared to the old pot-buying experience—stealthily purchasing a dime bag on the street corner or in the basement of your friendly neighborhood drug dealer—any store could look fancy and inviting.

The billion-dollar medical marijuana and recreational marijuana industry is hooked on photo sharing site Instagram — but the Facebook-owned social network detests the smell of pot.

Last week, several major cannabis brands were left scrambling after Instagram conducted yet another purge of pot-related Instagram accounts. The company’s terms of service preclude posting illegal drugs and paraphernalia, and cannabis’ quasi-legality leaves its brands open to attack.

Think of hemp as the sober cousin of marijuana. It’s grown without pesticides, GMO seeds or synthetic fertilisers. The textile it yields is durable, insulating and, when processed well, has a linen-like drape. It is bio-degradeble too. No wonder it’s caught the fancy of three Indian start-ups.

The wonder fabric

Move over edibles, lotions and tincture potions — there’s an entire new realm of cannabis-infused products hitting the shelves of dispensaries and recreational shops as marijuana moves even further into the mainstream.

What was once almost always smoked is now also available to mix in with your morning smoothie, gargle as a mouthwash, or even insert into your, ahem, lady parts. The science of extracting THC to make the base oil used in many of these products is a fairly standard practice, which begs the question, “What can’t we infuse?”
