 As Oregon officials struggle to license all sectors of the recreational marijuana industry before the end of the year, a top official of the agency that accredits labs that test pot says it is overwhelmed — a situation that could derail the rollout.

Gary K. Ward, administrator of the Oregon Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program, emailed dozens of labs awaiting licenses, saying his agency’s abilities to accredit them is “on the precipice of collapse … because of the lack of resources and the last minute rush of cannabis labs with applications.”

Justin Shepherd, a former employee at a Kohl's in Calfornia, is suing the department store chain for wrongful termination. Shepherd says he worked at Kohl's for years before he was diagnosed with acute and chronic anxiety. Shepherd received a recommendation for medical marijuana from his doctor. Shepherd didn't notify the company that he had started to use it for his illness, but in 2012 Kohl's its personnel policies to include exceptions to its drug testing for employees in certain states, like California.

Two trials have already demonstrated that marijuana medicine developer GW Pharmaceuticals PLC's (NASDAQ: GWPH) Epidiolex can reduce seizure rates in rare forms of epilepsy, but data that could confirm previous results and boost confidence in a potential FDA filing for Epidiolex next year is expected by the end of the quarter. If results from this trial in Lennox-Gastaut syndrome patients echo findings from its prior study, then GW Pharmaceuticals could soon be in a position to reshape how doctors treat this rare form of epilepsy.
