Does Marijuana Legalization Really Have to Worry About the Alcohol Industry?

Support for marijuana legalization has grown dramatically over the past decade since California first passed laws permitting its use for medical reasons, but not everyone is on board. Aside from groups you'd expect to be opposed to it, like those in the healthcare industry, many were surprised to learn the alcohol industry was also aligned against it. Considering the failure of Prohibition to curb alcohol usage, you'd think the industry would understand the drive to legalize marijuana.

As the Marijuana Business Grows, Is There Room for the Little Guy?

This November, nine states will consider ballot measures related to marijuana. The big one is California, where voters could make pot legal for recreational use. Considering that the Golden State’s economy is around the sixth biggest in the world, the move could be the tipping point for legitimizing the cannabis market.

As weed has gone more mainstream, it’s attracted more conventional investors. Some of them could be found at the recent Cannabis World Congress & Business Expo in Los Angeles.

Mike Lewis and the Growing Warriors

One of the things I love most about our industry is that it’s constantly being shaken up. Everywhere you look, there’s an individual or a company taking things to a previously unprecedented level. What’s even more amazing is the pace at which things are moving; a pace that’s only going to increase in speed as the industry becomes more open and recognized.

To help illustrate what I mean, think about this: If you have kids that are, say 5 years old or younger, there is a good chance that you won’t need to teach them how to drive. At least not the way you or I learned. It’s entirely possible that our kids will never have to grab a steering wheel or press a gas pedal.

Don’t worry, I’ll wait while you go ahead and put your brain back together.

While medical marijuana is now legal in the majority of the U.S., the industry is new and still finding its footing in terms of standardization. With a wide variety of products and delivery forms (including inhalable, edible and topical products), patients can have trouble with dose consistency.

But strides are being made to provide patients with dosage control and consistency across batches, such as with encapsulated cannabis oil and vaporizer pens.

How Medical Marijuana Transformed Stoner Culture Into Big Business in the US

Investors, retailers, farmers and even delivery start-ups are cashing in on America's profitable new industry.

Marijuana has come a long way. In just a few years, the drug has gone from being banned across the US to being legalised not only for medical use, but recreational purposes too.

In 1996, California voters approved Proposition 215 – the first legislation legalising marijuana for medicinal purposes at state level. Since then, 25 US states have relaxed laws on medical cannabis use, with several – Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and the District of Columbia – allowing recreational use.
