What Canada Marijuana Legalization Means for Investors in 2017

Canada marijuana legalization is the next big growth catalyst for marijuana stocks. That's because only 13% of the $6.7 billion in marijuana sales in North America in 2016 were from Canada.

But that will change in 2017…

As part of his 2015 campaign, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised marijuana reform in Canada. That's because the majority of Canadians want recreational marijuana use legalized.

In a poll conducted during the summer of 2016, 69% of participants either supported or somewhat supported legalized recreational marijuana.

Only 26% were opposed or somewhat opposed.

Marijuana after Dark? Not in Denver (Not Yet)

For now—and for at least the near future—Denver is America’s de-facto capital for recreational cannabis. It was the first, and until California or Las Vegas get their acts together, it remains the biggest show around.

As such, “Denver” is dangled in front of fearful, parochial City Councils and excitable NIMBYs as a cautionary tale of damage done by legal marijuana sales—apparently, “jobs” and “tax revenue” aren’t for everybody—and alternately held up as a model for how other cities can seize a piece of the weed billions for themselves.

One thing other cities won’t do, if they choose to follow Denver’s lead, is close up shop early.

Cuomo: Hemp could be 'a billion dollar industry' in the Southern Tier

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo did not make a stop in the Southern Tier to give one of his six State of the State addresses. While in Syracuse on Wednesday, the governor mentioned the Southern Tier region by name only once, to discuss hemp.

"The Southern Tier is actually ideal for hemp farming industry," Cuomo said. "We want to be very aggressive. We believe it could be a billion dollar industry. We want the Southern Tier to lead the way."

The Real Reason Craft Cannabis is Here to Stay

Nothing evokes passionate debate in the cannabis community like the threat of big business taking over. The arguments against big marijuana fill the internet. The heartfelt plea to preserve small farms is echoed throughout the US, Canada, and Jamaica. At the Marijuana Business Conference in Las Vegas last November there was even a debate dedicated to arguing which was better: Craft Cannabis vs Big Marijuana.

But this should never have been an either or statement. Is Big Business with Big Money going to jump in on the Marijuana Green Rush? Absolutely! Is that the beginning of the end of small craft farmers? Not in a million years!

The Trump Effect and Biotech Stocks: What Investors Need to Know

The stock market reacted in a volatile manner to President-elect Donald Trump’s first press conference since the election.

NY medical marijuana company to roll out home delivery service

Home delivery of medical marijuana is coming to the five boroughs.

State health officials first announced plans to allow home cannabis consignment in August as part of a gradual expansion of the tightly regulated program, which launched in January 2016.

New Montreal marijuana clinics turn to doctors outside of province

A new chain of Montreal-area medicinal marijuana clinics hasn’t yet opened, but its methods are already being challenged by Quebec’s college of physicians.

And while the man behind these clinics says he’s complying with the rules outlined by Health Canada’s medicinal cannabis program, he also admits that some of the doctors he works with are based out of province and will prescribe the drug via Skype teleconference.

This practice is illegal, according to the Collège des médecins du Québec.
