Noel's Turkey Farm land sold, to become marijuana production facility

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR -- There’s a new cannabis business making its way to the province, and it could mean another 200 jobs in the Freshwater area, near Carbonear.

FSD Pharma announced an agreement to purchase 51 per cent of Atlantic Island Cannabis Thursday morning — what they are calling a “strategic investment of $40 million to bring economic benefits to the province of Newfoundland” with a “phased expansion plan in place to create 200 local management and construction jobs.”

The first phase of the project involves setting up an indoor cannabis production facility in Freshwater, on the current Noel’s Turkey Farm land. Owner Kerry Noel signed a land sale agreement with Atlantic Island Cannabis on Wednesday.

Legal marijuana dispensaries in Kelowna won't happen until next year

Bobby Kennedy sells skateboards for a living, and, up until this week, he was also selling medical marijuana from his Pandosy Street business.

That is, until the City of Kelowna shut him down — one of the last dispensaries in the city forced to close its doors.

“As far as I’m concerned, the city is completely blowing it on doing these types of things — not just by shutting me down — it’s by shutting down access to the people,” Kennedy said.

BRITISH COLUMBIA -- The City of Kelowna said, as the October 17 date approaches for legalization, it’s about six weeks away from coming up with a plan.

How Nova Scotia's business community is preparing for cannabis legalization

The countdown is on until cannabis becomes legal in Canada on Oct. 17.

The new law comes with mixed feelings and perspectives for members of the business community.

“It’s happening to us, it’s happening whether you like it or not. It’s happening in the models that have been chosen and we didn’t lobby for it for instance in our world but we really want to do it well and do it responsibly,” said Tim Pellerin, NSLC’s senior vice-president and CEO.

Pellerin was one of the people selected to discuss the potential impacts cannabis legalization will have on businesses throughout Nova Scotia at a luncheon in Halifax Wednesday.

Are Marijuana Stocks Expanding Too Quickly?

The marijuana industry is in its early-growth stages and many companies are staking out positions in various parts of the country — and the world. With the U.S. currently off limits until cannabis is legalized federally, companies like Canopy Growth Corp. (TSX:WEED)(NYSE:CGC) have had to look to other parts of the world for expansion opportunities. The latest market attracting the attention of cannabis companies is South America, with Canopy Growth recently announcing the acquisition of medical marijuana company Spectrum Cannabis Colombia S.A.S. There could be many more acquisitions on the way, as Aphria Inc. (TSX:APH) has also expressed interest in the…

Pot industry not of one mind over outdoor growing

The federal government’s move to greenlight the growing of commercial cannabis outdoors will allow Canadian producers to compete globally, but it also carries risks, those in the industry say.

At least one medical marijuana grower in Southwestern Ontario – one of the country’s richest farm belts, where seven indoor pot producers now operate – says his company is cautiously exploring the new outdoor option, while another was quick to rule it out.

The mixed reaction comes as the federal Liberals prepare to lift the outdoor cultivation ban on medicinal and recreational cannabis – the drug could previously only be grown in greenhouses or indoors – in a bid to create a competitive industry and battle the black market ahead of legalization on Oct. 17.

Why Aurora Cannabis Inc. (TSX:ACB) Is the Marijuana Stock With the Most Upside

With legal marijuana just over three months away, many investors are wondering whether it’s too late to capitalize off the Canadian green rush. While it may seem like you missed Aurora Cannabis Inc. (TSX:ACB) after its incredible 2,000% surge over the last two years, there are many reasons why the best may be yet to come. The proposed bylaw prohibits cannabis smoking, vaping or consumption in any public place – including parks, trails and playgrounds – as well as private property frequented by residents (business or mall parking lots, for example).

Tobacco smoking would be allowed in parking lots provided a person is at least 10 metres from any doorway.
