The best-performing marijuana stock of all time (Hint: It's probably not who you think it is)

Sports fans like to argue about which basketball player is the greatest of all time -- the GOAT. Some like Michael Jordan. Others go with Lebron James. Perhaps a few throw out the names of other great basketball players of the past. But the arguments usually aren't settled, mainly because it comes down to personal opinion and which stats receive higher prioritization.

However, no argument is needed when it comes to determining the best-performing marijuana stock of all time. There's a hands-down winner. and it's probably not who you think it is.

Runners-up

Let's first acknowledge several marijuana stocks that have performed really well, but not close enough to take the top spot.

U.S. cannabis producers fear Canada will 'Dominate the industry'

The CEO of California-based marijuana producer and seller Terra Tech is watching the cannabis industry boom north of the border with more than a little apprehension — because he is already seeing the beginnings of an invasion of U.S. markets by Canada's cannabis firms, today the world's largest.

"The concern for some of the players is the market will be dominated by Canadian companies, shareholders and banks if we allow too much time to pass," Peterson said by phone from California.

With Canada set to legalize recreational marijuana on Oct. 17, Canadian cannabis stock prices have soared, giving these startup firms enormous amounts of money with which to invest in their business.

Forget Tilray, here's a marijuana stock you'll probably like a lot more

You can't get away from Tilray (NASDAQ:TLRY). The Canadian marijuana stock makes news when it goes up, which has happened a whole lot over the last couple of months. And it makes news when it goes down. Tilray has done a good bit of that, too, over the past few days, at one point losing over half of its market cap.

3 Marijuana stocks to buy in October

If you've been trading marijuana stocks hoping to make a lot of money fast, stop it. Even if you've been really lucky so far, it's time to change your perspective. Shift your focus from the short term to the long term. Why? First of all, you're more likely to generate solid returns. And the reality is that there are several marijuana stocks that have a really good shot at being long-term winners. Three that I think fit the bill are CannaRoyalty (NASDAQOTH:CNNRF), Canopy Growth (NYSE:CGC), and Scotts Miracle-Gro(NYSE:SMG).

Purolator to provide home delivery for legalized cannabis in P.E.I.

A courier company with experience delivering medical marijuana will be bringing recreational pot to Islanders once it is legalized next month.

P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission spokesman Zach Currie confirmed shipping company Purolator has been chosen to provide home delivery for recreational cannabis in the province.

Purolator submitted one of four or five proposals, Currie said. “There wasn’t major interest.” Choosing a delivery provider brings the province another step closer to being ready for Oct. 17 when recreational marijuana is legalized across Canada. Home delivery won’t be the only way for Islanders to buy marijuana once it is legalized.

The big day is nearly here. Just 18 days from now, on Oct. 17, recreational marijuana will be legal for purchase in licensed dispensaries, and online in some provinces, throughout Canada. This'll make our neighbor to the north the first industrialized country in the world to wave the green flag on adult-use weed, and also open the door to some serious profit potential for marijuana stocks.

Expecting a dip in sales, some Alberta liquor merchants are shifting to cannabis

But the line between the two sectors is set to become increasingly blurred as some of those booze merchants make peace with pot by either switching over to the cannabis side or expanding into it.

Even before the advent of legit marijuana, many liquor retailers, particularly in Calgary, have seen the economic downturn take a five- to 10-per-cent bite out of their sales volume over the past three years, said Ivonne Martinez, spokeswoman for the Alberta Liquor Store Association (ALSA).

“Cannabis is an opportunity to make up that loss,” said Martinez.

“It’s very similar to alcohol — we know how to do this properly and would be well-prepared to do so.”

This cannabis giant just became profitable

While pot stocks are living the high life, soaring as major beverage companies look to get into the game as Canada prepares to officially legalize recreational marijuana, pot poster boy Aurora Cannabis just released its quarterly earnings—and investors are impressed.

In the fiscal fourth quarter which ended on June 30th, Aurora posted a 223-percent increase in earnings, hitting $14.7 million (C$19.1 million). It also said net income moved into profit —exactly what investors were looking for.

Net income for the quarter was around $61.6 million (C$79.9 million). That’s highly significant because losses in the same quarter last year were (C$19.2 million).
