Tribes Exploring Marijuana Industry

SENECA, NY -- There's a push to get the medical marijuana industry up and running on Indian territories. Leaders of the National Tribal Cannabis Association expect to see the industry in full swing on some reservations within the next year.

Former president of the Seneca Nation, Robert Porter, helped organize meetings that about 75 tribal leaders from across the country have attended.

Last week Porter met with tribes within the Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan region.

Porter say most tribes are showing interest in the medical marijuana industry and regulations are starting to be drafted.

Porter said, "I don't see many leaders talk about adult recreational use at this time."

Public airs views at hearing over medical marijuana dispensaries in Vancouver

VANCOUVER — A public hearing on Vancouver’s proposal to regulate pot shops is heating up with more than 150 people set to speak.

Pot-legalization advocates, dispensary owners and patients crammed city hall on Wednesday evening as the hearing began.

City manager Penny Ballem says the number of authorized medical marijuana users in British Columbia accounts for nearly half of all those in Canada.

The city is proposing new regulations to control the rapid growth of illegal pot shops, which have multiplied from fewer than 20 to 94 over the past three years.

The regulations would include a new business licence category, a $30,000 fee and a requirement that stores be 300 metres away from schools, community centres and other pot shops.

The Uncertain Future of Cannabis Farming in Humboldt County

As part of my work on the Blue Ribbon Commission on Marijuana Policy I spent an intriguing and enjoyable couple of days in Humboldt County with California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Congressman Jared Huffman and State Assembly Member Jim Wood. We met with growers, toured a cannabis nursery and also held a public forum. This photo of the forum, taken from the back by journalist Grant Scott-Goforth, gives some sense of how well the event was attended. The room was crammed with over 200 people who stayed until the end (despite the room’s considerable heat) to articulate their concerns.

Huge medical marijuana grow op faces delay

Construction appears to have been halted on a massive medical marijuana grow operation planned for Stellarton.

According to a Vida Cannabis news release, it is attempting to reduce expenditures while it waits for approval from Health Canada for its required security clearance.

“Because of the lack of visibility regarding timelines for security clearance, we feel it is prudent to pace our expenditures until we have a better idea of our progress in the licensing process,” reads the release.

“We are working together with Lindsay Construction, with their full support, on a construction timeline and budget that takes into account the longer than anticipated wait at the security clearance stage.”

Nutritional High Building a Multi-State Edibles Manufacturing Platform

WHITEFISH, MT / ACCESSWIRE / June 10, 2015 / Consistency is key. This is the philosophy under which Nutritional High is building its business from day 1. Headlines abound about marijuana edibles containing anywhere from 0 to 200% of the dosage stated on the package. Some purveyors of edibles, be it homemade brownies or products purchased at dispensaries, find dosing an issue. Testing in Colorado confirms that dosing is a significant challenge for marijuana edible companies as they try to ramp up production, and this is a challenge Nutritional High is taking up.

Tennessee hemp farmers start planting highly regulated seeds

ONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (AP) - Farmers in Tennessee have started receiving highly regulated hemp seeds to produce the state's first legal harvest of the crop in more than 70 years.

The Johnson City Press reports that 46 farmers are receiving the seeds this year through a pilot program offered by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. Officials hope to learn what varieties of hemp will grow best in which areas of the state.

Washington County farmer Wayne Smith says he expects to harvest the crop in four months and sell hemp oil at a local farmers market.

Why the right to “eat it” is behind the downtrend in the medicinal marijuana market

June 9, 2015 — In a special InvestorIntel interview, Publisher Tracy Weslosky and Senior Editor Peter Clausi discuss the recent trends in the medical marijuana industry. They explain reasons for uncertainties in the market such as the Supreme Court of Canada case regarding what forms of marijuana may be ingested. Clausi goes on to say that though there is still capital available, there will be more certainty in the sector once the court cases are decided.

Tracy Weslosky: I’ve noticed a number of the medicinal marijuana and hemp stocks have actually moved downwards. Can you tell us what’s going on?

Ban lifted: Retail pot is now a reality in this Colorado city, says city council

COMMERCE CITY — Those who want to run a recreational marijuana store can now apply to open a business in Commerce City after council lifted a ban that had been in place since 2013.

And recreational as well as medical marijuana businesses (or testing, cultivation or manufacturing facilities) now have more site options and a streamlined application process after City Council last week also approved updated zoning and licensing rules.

Medical marijuana businesses have been allowed in Commerce City since 2012. Back then, basic marijuana regulations for things like distance from schools and parks were adopted into the city code. But in the three years since then, no one applied to open a store in Commerce City.
