Nearby Brampton gets the nod for singer and co-owner’s first Bullrider Cannabis store.

Drake, the multi-Grammy-winning rapper known for his love of “The 6ix,” opted to go west a bit, young man, when opening his first Canadian weed store.

Brampton, about 45 kilometres from Toronto, proved the winning location for the first Bullrider Cannabis store.

“At the heart of Bullrider is the convergence of street art, hip-hop and limited premium cannabis product offering,” notes the website of the Toronto-based company. That includes merchandise, retail and premium cannabis products.

Last month, Drake, born Aubrey Drake Graham, joined OVO co-founder and producer, Noah “40” Shebib as an investor, partner and strategic advisor. As part of Bullrider, a subsidiary of Robes Inc., he became a co-owner alongside industry veterans 40, Maxim Zavet and Lorne Greenberg.

“I’ve always viewed 40 as the expert when it comes to cannabis, so I’m very excited to invest, partner and contribute to setting a new standard for a premium cannabis experience,” Drake said as part of the partnership announcement.

“It’s not just another cannabis brand. Bullrider has a deep reverence for quality cannabis and its medicinal properties which I’ve always been extremely passionate about,” 40 added in the statement.

According to BlogTO, the new Bullrider store is decorated with art by Kwest, the creator of Drake’s album art, and steel armature sculptures.

The flagship store will be able to deliver to both Brampton and nearby Mississauga, which have about 603,000 and 829,000 citizens, respectively. Mississauga has opted out of cannabis retail within city limits twice since recreational weed was legalized. With about 323,000 residents, Vaughan, just north of Toronto, also does not allow pot shops at present.

“Brampton fits our cannabis farmgate model so that we can grow and sell onsite,” Max Zavet, chairman for Bullrider Cannabis, told BlogTO .

In an Instagram post on Friday, the company reported the grand opening this past Saturday would feature in-store specials, guest appearances, burgers and music.

“The 6ix” can expect to welcome a company store sometime in future.

Earlier this year, Drake and Canopy Growth Corp. reported they had mutually agreed to go their separate ways . Their joint venture was to launch the More Life brand, with Drake owning 60 per cent of the More Life Growth Company.

But with things not progressing as intended, the partnership was split.
