Three charged, drugs and weapons seized in Gatineau, Que. sweep

Drugs seized in the raids included GHB, cocaine, crack cocaine, cannabis candy, ecstasy, crystal meth, methamphetamine tablets, amphetamine tablets and other illicit drugs.

A series of raids in Gatineau, Que. on Wednesday resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of drugs and weapons and the “detention” of 10 suspects.

Acting on a tip from the public, nearly 70 Gatineau and Sûreté du Québec officers hit five residences in Gatineau and one in the Hull sector.

In total, 10 individuals were taken into custody by police. Seven of them were released, but may be charged at a later date, police said.

Two of the other suspects were charged with trafficking, while the third was charged with simple possession of drugs, unauthorized possession of a firearm and violation of a restraining order in connection with possession of a firearm.

Officers seized one .45-calibre handgun and two “airsoft” replica guns: one machine gun and one Sig Sauer handgun replica. Police also seized a bulletproof vest and a quantity of ammunition.

Drugs seized in the raids included 1.1 litres of GHB (known as the “date rape drug”), 509 grams of cocaine and 10.4 grams of crack cocaine, 1,000 grams of cannabis candy, 50 ecstasy tablets, 2.5 grams of crystal meth, more than 1,900 tablets of methamphetamine, 78 tablets of amphetamine and other illicit drugs.

Also seized were 31 cellphones, one tablet computer, $3,323 in cash and several endorsed cheques totalling more than $3,000.
