Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that Canada made history last week when they legalized recreational cannabis on Wednesday. A bill was passed back in June that allows Canadians to spark up whenever they want but made them wait until October to do so.
Canadians were quick to hop online and order from legal government-run websites to buy the first rounds of legal weed on October 17th. Yet multiple people are facing issues with getting their packages delivered only 5 days after legalization. While the rules around legalization have already been confusing, new posts online are showing how frustrated Canadians really are with Canada Post now that deliveries are getting screwed up.
One Canadian from Alberta took to Reddit on Monday night to share how his legal online purchase was sent to the "Canada Post graveyard" due to the strong odour it put out. This is only hours after another Redditor was quick to poke fun at the delivery company when they launched theirnew "scent-blocking" envelopes.
According to the Reddit post, the package contains 10 grams of weed that was legally purchased from the Alberta Cannabis website. After the package travelled from Edmonton and into Calgary, it next went to Lethbridge where the package was then flagged for it's "strong marijuana" smell.
Considering the package had a third of the legal amount that Canadians are allowed to have on them at any given time, it's unsurprising that it may have faintly smelt like pot.
The poster confirmed that they had spoken to both Canada Post customer service as well as Alberta Cannabis customer service to resolve the issue, including replacing the order completely. In fact, Canada Post confirmed that it was most likely an unhappy employee who flagged down the package in the first place.
It's hard to blame the worker for being unhappy when legalization surely brought an influx of deliveries, as well as the rotating strike that Canada Post employees are currently operating under.
After a little digging online, it seems like many Canadians are actually unhappy with the way Canada Post is coping with weed legalization.
Some customers complained about the waiting time for their packages, while others experienced a painless shopping experience and speedy delivery. Since legalization was only put in place on Wednesday of last week, people have been getting packages within 5 days of placing their online order.
