The company that partnered with the large-scale Village Farms greenhouse in East Ladner to grow recreational marijuana has secured another major contract, this one in Newfoundland.

Emerald Health Therapeutics this month announced it has been named as the cannabis supplier by Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation to provide adult-use cannabis products. The contract starts Oct. 17, when recreational pot is set to be legal in Canada

“We’re proud to work with the NLC as a preferred licensed producer to serve Newfoundland and Labrador in the upcoming legal cannabis market,” said Chris Wagner, CEO at Emerald, in a press release. “This represents the third provincial agreement for our team and we expect to share additional supply updates in the future.”

With its previously announced supply agreements with the provinces of B.C and Ontario, as well as its commercial production facilities quickly ramping up in B.C and Quebec, Emerald says it is prepared for the adult-use market.

Emerald Health Therapeutics produces and sells dried cannabis and cannabis oil for medical purposes. The company owns, among other things, 50 per cent of Pure Sunfarms, a joint venture with Village Farms. The existing 1.1 million-square-feet of greenhouse space in Delta is being converted to marijuana.

Emerald also owns Agro-Biotech, a Québec-based licensed cannabis grower with a 75,000-square-foot indoor facility, and says it’s planning to add a 500,000-square-foot greenhouse in Metro Vancouver.
