President Trump's New Drug Czar Hates Marijuana

It appears President Donald Trump is about to make another staunch marijuana opponent a member of his staff.
Reports indicate that Pennsylvania Representative Tom Marino, who has served three terms in Congress, is on the verge of stepping down from his role as a one of the nation’s legislative forces to become the leader of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).
“A source familiar with personnel moves in the White House says that Marino is in the final stages of completing his paperwork and an official announcement is forthcoming. When asked for comment, the White House said it had no personnel announcements at this time. Marino’s office had no comment,” according to CBS News.
In addition to being a member of a House committee aimed at curbing the opioid epidemic, the Congressman has also been a big part of two bills designed to put the leashes on drugs in the United States. The first bill, the Transnational Drug Trafficking Act, was drafted to put the screws to people who smuggle illegal drugs into the country. The other bill, the Ensuring Patient Access and Effective Drug Enforcement Act, provides the pharmaceutical companies with more protection against the DEA.
Perhaps most importantly, however, Marino has spent his time in Congress voting against various marijuana-related proposals. Reports show he has voted several times against the Rohrabacher-Farr amendment, which is the only temporary policy the nation has in place to protect the medical marijuana community from federal interference. He is also part of the Congressional clan that continues to prevent veterans from discussing medical marijuana with doctors employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
As the official U.S drug czar, Marino would dictate national drug-control policies, including overseeing all of the government’s anti-drug campaigns. He would also advise the President on a variety of issues pertaining to national and international drug efforts, which could include offering his advice on how the administration should react to legal marijuana.
Although Trump said throughout his entire campaign that he supports medical marijuana “100 percent,” his selected advisors, all the way around the table, do not show much empathy or support for the cause.
Marino’s position with the ONDCP has not yet been confirmed.
