Weed Doesn't Affect Your IQ, but Tobacco Might

Marijuana has long been celebrated for providing creative stimulus, though has always been thought to have a less positive affect on the intellectual side of one's brain. Well, no longer, thanks to a new study that suggests getting stoned is actually a highly ineffective choice of hobby if you're looking to obliterate a few brain cells. Tobacco, on the other hand, works wonders.

The study, published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, surveyed 2235 UK teenagers to find out whether there was any relationship between cumulative cannabis use and IQ levels. Those who reported having smoked cannabis more than 50 times were found to have IQ and educational performance levels no different to those who had never smoked. But adjusting the results to account for tobacco use, the researchers found a "robust" link between cigarette smoking and poor performance at school.
