THE MARIJUANA PESTICIDE CONUNDRUM: WHAT THE EPA’S NEW GUIDELINES MEAN

Last month, pesticide use in the legalized cannabis market made headlines and sent some shock waves through the industry, with articles such as, “Millions of Dollars of Pot Sales on ‘Hold’ in Denver Due to Bug Spray Concerns,” which explained that a growing number of cultivators had been forced to halt distribution, affecting at least many tens of thousands of plants.

“One such cultivator was LivWell (forced to put 60,000 plants on hold),” Cannabis Business Times (CBT) Editor Noelle Skodzinski explained in an editor’s note preceding the article–“Facing Cannabis’s Pesticide Problem,” written by horticulture expert Kurt Badertscher of Otoké Horticulture–that CBT featured in response to the situation.

The hold order was released shortly thereafter, and John Lord, LivWell owner, told CBT that the company was working hand-in-hand with the Denver Department of Environmental Health to clear up confusion and help design an industry standard testing regime to ensure safe cannabis products.
