Bill could expand medical marijuana in Iowa

ELDRIDGE, Iowa (KWQC) — The bill introduced in Des Moines on Monday could change the lives of many patients. It would allow medical marijuana for those with chronic diseases, including cancer, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, AIDS, glaucoma, hepatitis C, crohn’s disease, colitis, ehlers-danlos syndrom, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
A local family from Eldridge, Iowa, says legislators need to move faster. The Mackenzie’s recently lost Benton Mackenzie to his battle with angiosarcoma. He was arrested for growing marijuana, which his family says was helping treat the cancer. When the marijuana was taken away from Mackenzie, his angiosarcoma went from stage one to terminal within four months. The Mackenzie’s story caught a lot of media attention, and they feel passionate about this new bill that has been introduced.
